Effective date: September 17, 2026
The short version: NoteMagic stores your notes locally on your device. Nothing you write is sent anywhere on its own. Two features exchange data with your device's voice services when you actively use them — Read Aloud's optional "online voices," and Voice Input (dictation) — both described in detail below. No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
NoteMagic does not require an account and does not collect, transmit, or have access to the notes you create. All notes, attachments, images, and settings are stored locally in the app's private storage on your device using a local database. We (the developer) never see this data, because it never leaves your device under normal use.
NoteMagic's Read Aloud feature can speak your notes out loud. By default, this uses your device's on-device text-to-speech voices, which process everything locally — nothing is sent anywhere.
NoteMagic also lets you optionally enable online voices — higher-quality voices provided by your device's voice service (typically Google). This setting is off by default and requires you to explicitly opt in, with an in-app warning before you do. If you turn it on and use an online voice, the text of the note being read is sent to that voice provider's servers to generate the audio. That transmission and its handling are governed by your voice provider's own privacy policy, not this one. You can disable online voices at any time in Settings.
NoteMagic lets you dictate into the title or any note field by tapping the microphone icon. While you're dictating, your device's speech recognition service converts your voice into text, which is inserted into the note as you speak.
Unlike Read Aloud's online voices, this is not a separate opt-in — it's how the microphone button works whenever you use it, and it relies on the same speech recognition system your device's keyboard microphone or built-in dictation feature already uses. Depending on your device, its settings, and your connectivity, that recognition may happen entirely on-device, or your speech may be sent to an online recognition service (typically Google) to be converted to text — NoteMagic uses Android's standard speech recognition API and does not control, or have visibility into, which one your device chooses for a given session. NoteMagic itself never records or stores audio — only the resulting transcribed text becomes part of your note, exactly as if you had typed it.
A "Voice Input → Auto restart recording" setting exists to automatically resume dictation if your device's speech recognizer stops on its own mid-sentence — this only affects when dictation restarts itself, not what's sent where; the privacy considerations above apply identically whether it's on or off.
If this matters to you, you're always free not to use the microphone button — typing works exactly as before, with nothing sent anywhere.
NoteMagic lets you lock individual notes behind a PIN, or encrypt a note's content with a password you choose. Both features work entirely on-device: PINs and passwords are never sent anywhere, and encrypted note content uses standard, publicly available encryption (AES-256-GCM) processed locally. If you forget an encrypted note's password, its content cannot be recovered — we have no way to access or reset it.
File attachments (including embedded images) are not encrypted, even on a locked or encrypted note, and are stored in the app's local storage on your device.
NoteMagic lets you export your notes or create a full backup file, and share that file however you choose (for example, by saving it to your own cloud storage or sending it via email). These actions are entirely user-initiated — NoteMagic itself does not upload your notes anywhere. Where that file ends up, and who can access it, is under your control once you choose to share or save it.
NoteMagic requests only the device permissions it needs to function:
NoteMagic does not request access to your camera, contacts, or location, and contains no advertising or analytics software of any kind.
NoteMagic is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, regardless of age — the app simply does not collect data in the first place, as described above.
If this policy changes — for example, when cloud sync becomes available as an optional feature in a future update — this page will be updated with a new effective date, and any material change affecting how your data is handled will be described here before you're asked to opt in.
Questions about this policy or NoteMagic can be sent to apps@katr.com.
