About KATR Software

Who we are

KATR Software is a small, independent software company based in Minnesota. Since 1997 we have worked with clients on custom web and desktop software and the databases behind them, and in recent years we have turned more of our attention to building our own mobile apps.

Being small is deliberate. The person you talk to is the person who writes the code, and the software we ship is software we are willing to stand behind.

What we do

Mobile apps. We design, build, publish and support our own apps, including Benchwork Ballistics, NoteMagic and Tabata Forge. See them all on the Apps page.

Consulting. With more than 30 years of full-stack experience, we build web sites and applications on the LAMP stack, Android mobile apps, software in C, C++, C# and Java, databases in SQL Server and MySQL, and cloud solutions on Azure and Google Cloud. We also use AI tools such as Claude, Copilot and Gemini in our own work. Details are on the Services page.

How we think about software

• Respect the user. No accounts you do not need, no ads, no tracking, and your data stays on your device.
• Work offline. Good software should not stop working because the signal did.
• Keep it simple. A focused tool that does its job well beats a feature pile.
• Answer the mail. Every message to us is read by a person.
