The short version: Benchwork Ballistics keeps your rifles, loads, notebook and settings on your device. We never receive them. The app has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It uses the internet only when you ask it to check for a bullet catalog update, and it reads your location only when you tap "My location", and neither is sent to us.
We do not collect any personal information. Benchwork Ballistics does not require an account, and everything you enter (rifles, loads, muzzle configurations, notebook recipes, batches and chronograph sessions, custom bullets, conditions and settings) is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. We, the developer, never see it, because the app has no way to send it to us.
The app requests internet access for one purpose: downloading an updated bullet catalog when you tap "Check for catalog update" in Settings. That request goes to the catalog address shown in Settings (you can change it) and fetches a public file. Like any request on the internet, it reveals your device's IP address to the server that answers it. The app sends no personal information, identifiers or usage data with it. In release builds, connections must use HTTPS. The app does nothing online unless you start it.
The app asks for location permission only when you tap "My location" in the conditions sheet. It then reads your position once, to fill in altitude and latitude (used for air density and for Coriolis effects). The values you accept are saved on your device as part of your current conditions, like anything else you type. Your location is never sent anywhere by the app. If you decline the permission, everything else works, and you can enter altitude and latitude by hand.
If your phone has a barometer, the app can read the air pressure from it when you tap "Barometer". This needs no permission and the reading is not stored anywhere except in your conditions.
The app lets you save a backup file, share a rifle, share bullets, and share a range card (PDF or image) using Android's standard file picker and share sheet. This is entirely your choice: you decide where a file goes, and the app never sends one on its own. These files are not encrypted, so anyone who has a file can read it; think before you share one. Files you receive from other people are not verified, so review imported data before relying on it.
Android may include this app's data in your Google account backup if backup is turned on in your device's settings. That is controlled by your device and your Google account, not by Benchwork Ballistics, and is governed by Google's privacy policy. You can turn it off in your device's settings.
Benchwork Ballistics requests only these permissions:
It does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos or files beyond the ones you pick yourself, and it contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software.
Because your data is only on your device, you control it. "Erase all data" in Settings deletes your rifles, loads, notebook, custom bullets and settings, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored. Backup files you saved yourself stay where you saved them until you delete them.
Benchwork Ballistics is a tool for shooters and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone of any age; the app does not collect personal information at all, as described above.
If this policy changes, this page will be updated with a new effective date, and any material change affecting how your data is handled will be described here.
