Get help with Benchwork Ballistics
Need help, found a bug, or have a feature request? Email apps@katr.com. We read every message.
Every screen has a ? button in its top bar that explains that screen and its controls. ⋮ → Help topics (or Settings → About & legal) opens the full list, which includes a glossary of ballistics terms (also on this site) and step-by-step examples for comparing setups. Settings also has Take the tour, a short guided walk through the main screens.
For walkthroughs with screenshots, see the How-To Guide.
Where is my data stored?
On your device only. Benchwork Ballistics has no account and does not send your data anywhere. See the
Privacy Policy.
How accurate are the results?
They are predictions from a mathematical model and the numbers you enter, so they are only as good as
your inputs, especially muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient. Always confirm at known distances. The
app can adjust for temperature, pressure, altitude, humidity, wind, shot angle, spin drift and Coriolis.
See the Terms.
I don't want to set up a rifle. Can I just get a number?
Yes. On the Solution screen, tap the rifle name and choose Quick ballistics, or tap it
on the empty first screen. Enter a bullet, velocity and zero.
How do I get my suppressor's effect on my holds?
Add a muzzle configuration to your rifle (Profiles, then the rifle, then Add under Muzzle
configurations). Enter its velocity change and where it moves your point of impact, then switch between
configurations with the chips on the Solution screen.
What is the temperature sensitivity?
How much your load's velocity changes per degree. Record chronograph sessions for a notebook recipe at two
temperatures at least 10 °F apart and the app works it out, or type a figure on the load. It then adjusts
your velocity to the temperature in the conditions.
Is the notebook a source of load data?
No. It is for your own records only. The app does not provide published load data or charge
recommendations. Reloading is hazardous: always follow current published reloading manuals.
How do I move to a new phone, or keep a copy?
Settings → Back up to file saves everything (rifles, loads, notebook, custom bullets, settings and
conditions) to a file. On the new phone, open Settings → Restore and choose it. Backup files are not
encrypted, so keep them somewhere private.
The bullet I want is not in the library.
Add it as a custom bullet (Library, then Custom bullet) with the maker's published
ballistic coefficient. If a bullet's published data looks wrong, please tell us.
What does "Check for catalog update" do?
It downloads the latest bullet catalog from the address shown in Settings. It is the only time the app
uses the internet, and only when you tap it.
Email apps@katr.com with as much detail as you can: your device model, Android version, and the steps to reproduce a bug are especially helpful.
